Photo- journalist Richard McLaren's photographic course is a practical, hands on introductory course designed to develop camera handling skills as well as photographic and artistic skills. Participants are taken through the effective use of a camera, how it works and its maintenance, to the essentials of what constitutes a "good" photo and not just a snapshot. The course will conclude with a public exhibition of their best work.

Drumming Workshop - Free Workshop Program

Professional drummer, Ross Welsh, a very popular arts worker with skills to burn will tutor the group.

Contemporary Visual Arts Workshops - Cost $80 / term

Facilitated by painter Renae Burton, this contemporary visual art workshop focuses on basic to advanced techniques in painting and printmaking. Open to all members of the community. Limited places of 8 -10 participants

Hip Hop Workshops - Keepin it real - Free workshops

......Call out to all emerging Emcees, DJs, Beat Boxers, Break Dancers or Hip Hop fans who want to keep it real - Aussie Style. Get into it, get together and get down to Access Arts at the Powerhouse for our Free and Deadly Hip Hop Workshops where the crew will Mix-It-Up to lay down local sounds and lyrics that express community and cultural identity through the distinctive new flavour of Aussie hip hop. The workshops will be facilitated by respected local artists.

Singing Workshop - Cost $35 / term

Emma Bennison and Hayley Kitchener's workshop for singers wanting to develop professional skills in areas such as performance skills, stagecraft, projection and vocal expression.

Drawing Workshops - Cost $40 / term

Alicia Maroto will guide you through a series of workshops using charcoal as a medium to draw and paint. In the first session, participants will experiment and discover how to render tones and textures with charcoal, and following sessions will involve improving these skills and trying different genres.

Back by popular demand...Contemporary Visual Arts workshops with Renae Burton

Following a highly successful 6 week workshop series in Term One, Renae and her fabulous assistant Monique are back again in Term Two for 8 weeks of painting, print making and general visual arts fun!

The number of participants is limited to 8 - 10. Priority will be given to those who missed out the first time round. All community members are welcome!

Sound Circles TM Workshops - Cost $70 / term

Come along and enjoy a powerful voice and movement skills development workshop in Access Arts award winning Sound Circles ^TM program.

About the workshops:

Experience music, voice and percussion. Share, learn and perform in a fun and friendly environment.

Anyone can join in, no experience necessary!

The workshops will run on Saturdays from 1-3pm (initial 4 week trial from June 21st- July 12th), and will be extended if numbers are sufficient.

About the facilitator:

The sessions are conducted by Rob Eastcott who has a vast and varied background in many forms of Music Theatre and teaching – from performing and directing with Circus Oz to teaching at Melbourne Grammar.

Tea, coffee and afternoon tea provided!

Drawing workshops with Alicia Maroto are back by popular demand! New members are welcome but limited spaces are available, so enrol now. Basic materials are provided. Please note: Access Arts does not provide personal care support. If you require this assistance please bring your own carer. Due to the overwhelming interest expressed by our membership, Access Arts will be running contemporary dance workshops for the first time ever in Term 3! (with the possibility of continuing the workshops in term 4 if numbers are sufficient)

Requirements:

• Please come wearing loose, comfortable clothing to move around in.
• As usual, please bring your own carer if you require personal care support (if you need assistance finding an appropriate support worker please contact Access Arts).

Introducing Abby Brooke.....

Our fantastic facilitator for these sessions will be Abby Brooke, a Gold Coast local originally from England, who has a degree in Dance and extensive experience working with diverse communities.

Abby says she “looks forward to meeting and working closely with Access Arts members to express themselves through movement and have a lot of fun”.

Everyone (of all ages, abilities and experience levels) is encouraged to attend!

As well as being a lot of fun these workshops will have the following benefits for participants:

• Increase fitness and mobility
• Development of confidence
• Development of skills in a range of dance forms
• Opportunity for creative expression
• Development of alternate communication strategies through movement
• Social networking with others interested in dance and movement
• Links with other community classes for those interested in furthering their dance tuition.

Facilitated by Nic Vogelpoel, the aim of Access Arts’ Drama program (formerly Actors Anonymous) is to learn, develop and master the skills of drama. This program will benefit any participant who is committed and serious (not solemn!) about drama.

The workshops will run over 9 weeks starting Wednesday 30th July - 24th September from 11:30- 2pm.

If participant numbers and interest is still high, Term 4 will go from Wednesday 8th October - Wednesday 26th November from 11:30-2pm.

Screen Printing Workshops - Cost $60 / term

Artist Nancy Brown: Over a four week course you will design and print your own T-shirts using a range of techniques to create your own prints on clothing. We will screen print, block print, repeat patterns, use photo stencils, hand cut stencils and paint by hand. By the end of the course you will have a collection of your own unique designs to wear and carry around with you. Price does not include the supply of garments.

Everyone can dance!
Access Arts is running highly anticipated wheelchair dancing workshops!
The workshops will be facilitated by Kerri Hollier, an experienced wheelchair dance facilitator. Everyone is welcome (you do not have to be in a wheelchair to participate).
Please bring your own personal care support worker if required (for no extra cost).
Refreshments are provided but please bring your own lunch if needed.

This workshop is focused on an introduction to digital storytelling. Participants will learn how to utilise Microsoft Windows Movie Maker software which includes:

• Making storytelling movies for playback on computer DVD or CD Quality and for uploading to the web to suit dialup, ADSL and broadband speeds.
• Adding images by digital photography, scanning images and slides, utilising other audio video and imaging freeware and shareware as an extra resource.
• Adding video sequences from a digital video camera.
• Adding narration and sound by microphone, importing sound tracks and accessing movie sound effects from the web.

Access Arts Open Day 2008 - Free Event - 29th Nov 2008

Traditionally held on International Day of People with Disabilities in December, Access Arts invites the whole community to attend and join in the workshops and enjoy the performances and exhibitions.

Access Arts values volunteering and invests in appropriate volunteer training and development.
