As a fine artist, Andrew Coote has been producing art for most of his life, from early childhood through to primary and then secondary schooling; where he received the 'Book Prize for Junior Art'. Visual creation has been one of his main focuses in life.
Upon matriculating from high school Andrew studied at the Brisbane Institute of Art where he did several short courses. He gained entry into an Illustration Course at the Commercial Art Training Centre, which he was unable to commence due to work commitments. He also started a Certificate Course in art at TAFE which he was unable to complete due to poor health. Since having his artistic appetite whetted at a short Photoshop Image Manipulation program he attended recently, Computer Art is something he would like to participate in further.
Other than that, Andrew is self taught and he has gained a lot of insight into various visual mediums through experimentation and perseverance. He has displayed and sold a number of his works in Art Exhibitions for: the Schizophrenia Fellowship 'Schizophrenia Awareness Week' for several years; the New Farm Library; the CBD Gallery in Brisbane; the River City Christian Church; the Princess Alexandra Hospital Mental Health Awareness Week; and more recently, the Sandgate 'Expressions' Exhibition.
Currently he has been producing works at the 'Brisbane Outsider Artists' Studio at the Brisbane Powerhouse in New Farm two days a week, through the auspices of Access Arts, with a view to building up a comprehensive folio for future showing. Andrew is actively working on his art at home and although somewhat of a hobbyist, he believes he takes a professional approach to his art.
