First Aid Policy
All Access Arts policies relate to all Staff as well as Members.
Access Arts Inc. defines a Member as any person who has filled out a membership
form to join the organisation.
Staff are defined as persons engaged in Office, workshop/project or program,
Volunteer or Student placement work at Access Arts Inc.
Purpose:
To ensure that all members of the community receive appropriate First Aid whilst
at Access Arts Inc.
Policy:
All Staff who regularly have direct contact with members of the community
must have a current First Aid certificate.
The Access Arts Assistant Director must be consulted in order to determine
a Staff Member’s need for a First Aid certificate.
At least one Staff member of an Access Arts workshop, program, event or tour is to have a First Aid certificate.
There is to be a First Aid Kit kept in the Access Arts Inc. office
and with a Senior Staff Member at a program/project site.
All medical details pertaining to a casualty are to be kept confidential.
Information is only to be given out with the injured persons permission, or
alternatively with permission of their next of kin. Where this is not possible,
information should only be given to medical personnel for treatment purposes.
Any Member who does not have their ambulance costs subsidised by Centrelink
or the electricity ambulance levy, will be required to cover their own costs
if they require an ambulance while participating in an Access Arts Inc. program
or project.
An Incident Report Form must be completed by the injured person and
returned to Access Arts Inc. office as soon as possible.
A copy of the Accident and Critical Incident Protocol must be kept
in the First Aid Kit at all times, both in the office and at all workshop/ program
sites.
The Enrolment List must be located at every workshop/program site and
recorded under the Access Arts’‘s’ drive on the office computer
system.

The Emergency List (which contains numbers for emergency services and Access Arts Staff) must be located at the Front Desk in the office and with a relevant Staff Member at a workshop/program site at all times.
First Aid Procedure
Gloves are to be worn at all times when performing First Aid.
In the event of an injury, a Staff Member with a First Aid certificate must
administer First Aid and/or contact ambulance services (if required).
The First Aid Kit must always be kept under the Front Desk in the office.
When at a project or program site, the First Aid Kit must be kept with a Senior
Staff member.
The injured person’s Emergency Contact person(s) must be called. Their
number can be found on the Enrolment List, which must be located with a Senior
Staff Member at every workshop or program and under ‘Enrolments’
in the Access Arts‘ ‘S’ drive.
If an injury requires the parents, partner, carer or guardian to collect
a Member, a Staff Member of Access Arts Inc. is to remain with the Member until
they arrive.
If a Member needs to be transported to a hospital, and their Emergency Contact
person (parents, carer or guardian) has not yet arrived, they are to be accompanied
by an Access Arts Inc. Staff Member who is to stay with the injured person until
their contact person arrives.
If the injury is minor, the relevant Staff Member or Member is to complete
an Incident Report Form and return the form to the Access Arts Inc. office as
soon as possible.
In the case of a major injury, it is necessary to notify the Executive Director
or his/her delegate immediately. If the Executive Director or his/her delegate
are not available, contact the next person on the Emergency List. The Emergency
list is to be always located in the First Aid Kit, both in the office and at
project/program sites. This list includes numbers for emergency services and
Access Arts Staff Members.
If a Member needs to be transported to a hospital by an ambulance (while
participating in an Access Arts Inc. program/project), and he/she does not have
their ambulance costs subsidised by Centrelink or the electricity ambulance
levy, he/she will be required to cover their own costs.
