Personal Care Policy
All Access Arts policies relate to all Staff as well as Members.
Access Arts Inc. defines a Member as any person who has filled out a membership
form to join the organisation.
Staff are defined as persons engaged in Office, workshop/project or program,
Volunteer or Student placement work at Access Arts Inc.
Definition:
Personal Care services are those that attend to the physical needs of a person who is unable to fulfil these needs without the assistance of another person due to illness, disability or frailty. Personal Care services must be carried out by a trained professional and include assistance with bathing, management of bodily functions, toileting, feeding and drinking.
Purpose:
To ensure that all Members and Staff are aware of the protocol surrounding the provision of personal care services at Access Art Inc.
Policy:
Only trained professionals contracted by Access Arts or a member's own support worker are to perform personal care services during an Access Arts Inc. workshop, program or event.
It is not acceptable for Members to ask workshop, program or event Staff to assist with personal care tasks.
Access Arts Staff are not covered in the organisation's insurance policy to carry out personal care tasks, and as such must not carry out these tasks even if they don't mind doing it.
Members must indicate that they require personal care support at least 3 weeks before they participate in an Access Arts workshop, program or event if they are not bringing their own support worker.
If a Member requires personal care support and cannot bring their own support worker Access Arts can arrange for a trained professional to attend to these needs during a workshop, program or event only if the Member is prepared to pay for these services.
Members who will be using a personal care support worker contracted by Access Arts must pay their workshop fee along with the personal care support worker's fee at least one week in advance.
All information relating to Members' personal care support needs will be kept confidential. All written records of Members' personal care support needs will be kept in a locked file.
All Members receiving personal care support services must receive the contracted personal care support organisation's cancellation policy.
If Members do not adhere to the contracted personal care support organisation's cancellation policy they will be responsible for any outstanding fees.
Personal Care Procedure
Once a Member who is participating in an Access Arts workshop, program or event needs a personal care support worker to be organised they must let Access Arts know at least 3 weeks before the workshop, program or event is due to commence. Members who require this assistance must also outline the nature of personal care support they require.
Access Arts Staff are then to organise for a contracted personal care support worker to attend the workshop, program or event by contacting an appropriate personal care support organisation.
If more than one Member requires a personal care support worker for an Access Arts workshop, program or event, Members are then able to share the cost of the worker. Again, the number of Members requiring a personal care support worker must be determined at least 3 weeks before the workshop, program or event is due to commence in order to leave enough time to find an appropriate worker and finalise payment details.
Members must pay their workshop fee, along with the personal care support worker's fee at least one week before the workshop is due to commence. If this does not happen the personal care support worker will be cancelled.
Access Arts will then pay the contracted personal care support worker.
Once Access Arts has arranged the support Staff will provide the Member(s) with details of the cancellation policy of the care provider. In cases where the Member(s) does not adhere to the cancellation policy, they will be responsible for any outstanding fees.
Alternatively, a Member may choose to contact the personal care organisation themselves in order to establish a more permanent, personalised arrangement (with Access Arts assistance if needed).
Every Member who requires a personal care support worker must also indicate this under the support needs section of the Enrolment Form (which is to be filled out within the first week of a workshop commencing). This enables Access Arts to gauge the number of Members in need of personal care support for future workshops.
