Smoking Policy

All Access Arts policies relate to all Staff as well as Members.

Access Arts Inc. defines a Member as any person who has filled out a membership form to join the organisation.

Staff are defined as persons engaged in Office, workshop/project or program, Volunteer or Student placement work at Access Arts Inc.

Purpose:

To reduce the exposure of all persons involved with Access Arts to the hazards of tobacco smoke wherever possible.

Aims:

  • This policy aims not to stop people from smoking but to protect the rights of people in the vicinity of smokers.

  • To protect Access Arts Inc. from litigation for permitting an unhealthy work environment.

  • To remind Access Arts Inc. Members and Staff that it is a shared responsibility to ensure that smoking does not interfere with work practices or impact on the health and safety of others.

Policy:

Passive smoking experienced by non-smokers is well documented as a health hazard. Access Arts Inc. has clearly defined obligations under the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995. The employer is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of employees and all other persons involved with Access Arts workplaces.

The Powerhouse Smoking Management Plan has become part of Access Arts Inc. policy. The Brisbane Powerhouse designated outdoor smoking areas include:

  • The Plaza above the Ruins, enclosed by a cyclone fence;

  • The riverfront under the external staircase of the Turbine Hall building;

  • The New Farm Park end of the Rooftop Terrace deck, level 3 of the building;

  • The riverfront to the rear of the building adjacent to the river walk and across from rear (back of house) entrance to building.

  • An on-the-spot fine of $150.00 will be issued to any person smoking in a non-smoking area.

  • Whilst at Access Arts Inc. all persons must abide by the policy of not smoking within 3 metres of the office, or at any workshop or project.
