Student Placement Policy

All Access Arts policies relate to all Staff as well as Members.

Access Arts Inc. defines a Member as any person who has filled out a membership form to join the organisation.

Staff are defined as persons engaged in Office, workshop/project or program, Volunteer or Student placement work at Access Arts Inc.

Purpose:

To define the process involved with Student Placement, including the roles and expectations for both Access Arts Inc and the Student.

Aims:

  • To value a Student by ensuring he/she is given meaningful tasks which provide them with opportunities to utilise and develop new and existing skills.

  • To acknowledge the contribution of the Student by clearly defining his/her rights and responsibilities within Access Arts Inc.

Policy:

The Student is to:

  1. undergo an interview process which allows them to find out more about Access Arts Inc.

  2. provide Access Arts Inc. with information about their existing skills and abilities and find out what they would like to learn from the placement

  3. read and understand relevant policies in relation to his/her placement

  4. complete a Student Workplace Agreement form

  5. produce a current blue card and police check or apply within the first week of starting his/her placement

  6. sign in and out on the Attendance Form at the front desk

The Student Workplace Agreement:

  • must state the student’s course details

  • must define the roles of the placement

  • must define the start and finish dates of the placement, and the hours of work for the Student

  • must define the Conditions of Termination

All students must receive a weekly supervision session with the Membership Services Coordinator or the appointed Access Arts Inc. Staff Member.

Student Placement Procedure

  1. The Student must contact Access Arts Inc. for an interview with the Access Arts Inc. Membership Services Coordinator.

  2. The interview will cover the Student Workplace Agreement including:

    • the Student’s course details

    • the roles of the Placement

    • the start/finish dates and work hours of the Student Placement

  3. The Student must hold a blue card and police check or apply for these within the first week of starting the placement.

  4. The Assistant Director is to:

    • ensure that all paperwork from the Training Body is received

    • supervise the Student or allocate another staff member

    • sign time sheets and other forms connected with the placement if needed

    • ensure that the Student has an induction kit

    • show the Student the Attendance Form on the front desk, which is for signing in and out.
