Volunteering at Access Arts

Access Arts values volunteering and invests in appropriate volunteer training and development. A number of our volunteers have become salaried staff members or have been contracted to run arts workshop programs.

Our management Committee recognise that Volunteering is a pathway to employment through our organisation and it makes sense for Access arts to recruit workers appropriately and/or encourage people from our volunteer base to apply when positions become available or are advertised.

The definition of volunteers, from Access Arts' volunteer policy states:

Access Arts Inc. defines a Volunteer as one who enters into a reciprocal partnership with Access Arts Inc. where he/she provides services in return for skills development and creative opportunities, but does not receive a regular wage.

Please follow this link to read our volunteer policy.

We are currently calling for volunteers for Term 1 workshops (all held at Brisbane Powerhouse).

Assisting in these workshops are a great opportunity to meet & work with our members & facilitators in the workshop setting- it can also help you develop skills in support work & facilitation of workshops - perfect for if we need fill-in support workers or facilitators (paid positions) or if you wish to run your own workshop. Access Arts require volunteers for the following workshops:

  • Photography Workshop (facilitator Richard McLaren) Saturday mornings 10am - 12pm 9th Feb - 29th March

  • Sound Circles workshops - Saturday mornings 10am - 12pm 9th Feb - 29th March

  • Drumming (facilitator Ross Welch) - Fridays 12pm - 2pm 8th Feb - 28th March

  • Visual Arts mid-week workshops (facilitator Renae Burton) 10am - 1pm Wednesdays 20th Feb - 26th March

  • Hip Hop Workshops (aimed at indigenous youth) Wednesdays 4pm - 6pm 20th Feb - 26th March

  • BOA- visual arts professional development workshops (facilitator Jasmin Jacobson) Mondays & Tuesdays 10am - 3pm 11th Feb - 1st April

  • There are 9 visual arts exhibitions planned for 2008. So there will be plenty to do if you are interested in visual arts.

Below you will find an outline of volunteer tasks for this year. If you have any questions or comments about this, please contact Angela Jaeschke at Access Arts on 3358 6200 or by email.

Access Arts is also planning to form an Events Committee in 2008

The Events Committee will work with Access Arts events co-ordinator, marketing coordinator and AAI staff to plan, develop & market Access Arts events.

This is aimed at people who have skills in events planning / marketing or as mentoring for people wanting to gain skills (You can find more details in the Volunteer Tasks section below). If you are interested or want to find out more, please contact Angela Jaeschke at Access Arts on 3358 6200 or by email.

If you are a new volunteer (or an old volunteer who would like to have another chat about working with Access Arts), please contact Angela Jaeschke to meet and discuss your interests in volunteering with Access Arts in 2008.
